Rector Message

I am pleased to welcome you to the University of Medicine (1), Yangon. University of Medicine (1), Yangon has been one of the oldest and most prestigious medical schools in Myanmar as well as in the South East Asia Region. Having celebrated its 89th Anniversary, has earned its place among the best universities for its dedication to the highest education standards.
Our university produced 15536 medical graduates as well as 4687 post graduates in different fields of medicine during the period of 1965 to 2015. Many of its graduates have taken leading position and have mentioned its long-standing reputation for excellence in medical education, care and research, both nationally and internationally. Our university has an enrollment of more than 500 undergraduates and 200 post graduates annually. Myanmar has entered into the new era for building a modern and developed democratic nation. The Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar is undertaking series of reforms for development of the country in line with democratic practice.
Our university is transforming accordingly with the new National Education Law and National Health Plan. At the same time, we hold firmly to our fundamental goal of aiming excellence in medical education. Today’s complex health care environment requires multi-faceted physicians, ones who are skilled professionals; excellent communicators; clinical problem solvers; advocates for their patients and communities; well-versed in the scientific basis of medical practice; and competent, self-aware persons. We have outstanding faculty members who are committed to developing students to be leaders in clinical care. We would like to inspire future generations to become leaders in medical care, education, delivery and research. We are building on the foundation of excellence to inspire future generations of health professionals.
