MEDICAL EDUCATION AFTER INDEPENDENCE (1949-1962)

After independence, the Faculty of Medicine continued to run under the University of Rangoon, under the Ministry of Education.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine was the head. The post of Assistant Dean was created in 1954.

Branched Faculty of Medicine was established in Mandalay in 1954 and it became independent Medical Faculty under Mandalay University in 1958. Faculty of Medicine 2, University of Rangoon was opened in 1958.

In May 1962, the University Act was abolished and the Faculty of Medicine as part of the University of Rangoon, came under the Administrative Committee of the Education Ministry of the Revolutionary Government.
