NEW SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION

UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE (1)

Based on the proposals put up by the Higher Education Seminar held at the University of Rangoon in April 1964, the new University Education Act came into being on the 29th. of May 1964. Through this Act were established the professional Universitys, namely Universitys of Medicine, University of Technology, University of Education etc. The three Medical Faculties were now upgraded to independent University level in October 1964 and called as University of Medicine 1, Rangon, University of Medicine, Mandalay and University of Medicine 2, Rangon. All three Medical Universities continue to operate under that name up to now.

The Deans of the Faculties were promoted to the Rectors and headed each Institution. The Rector is the chairman of the Academic Board as well as the Administrative Board. Decisions relating to academic matters are made by the Academic Committee chaired by the Rector, with the Head of the Departments as members, and the Registrar (1) as Secretary. The Administration Board deals with administrative matters.
