Medical Electronic Library was setup in the library in a separate room. It was equipped with fourteen computer workstations with their own CD-ROM drives and floppy disc drives. And, the workstations were also connected to the Web servers and CD-ROM servers with online networking. The students and faculty member have access to full text and full graphics on CDs and the interactive CD, too. They could also retrieved published bibliographic database on digital format from Medline (webspirs) on the CD server. This segment of library utilizes the modern information technology and in near future will be assessable to the medical information of the Internet. 

 The Intra-institute network (Local Area Network) of computers was commenced in July 2000, with the support of China Medical Board of New York. Fiber optic cable was used as backbone cabling Database servers, Web servers, CD-ROM servers, computer workstations and departmental computers in its network. The students and the faculty members have access to bibliographies, abstracts and catalogue through the LAN and could have more data transfer of information, consultation, communication and conferencing in the near future. Database for students and staff records are being start creating. At present, the LAN covers the New Building where the New Library was located. The LAN also covers the main building of the Lanmadaw campus, where various departments of the Institutes were established. Some workstations and a CD-ROM server are installed at Pyay campus of the Institute of Medicine 1, independently for the pre-clinical medical students.

Arrangements are being made to expand the LAN of the Institute of Medicine 1, Yangon. Wide area network (WAN) is intended to construct, covering the Institute of Nursing, New Yangon General Hospital, Yangon General Hospital, and the Department of Medical sciences in near future.

Facilities for printing, copying, downloading onto the diskettes, and CD are provided to the student as well as the faculty staff. Inter- Library Loan facilities are provided to the users.
