Department of Neonatology

 

History

The department was established in 1962 in B-block of Central Women’s Hospital and the founder was Dr Daw Khin Than Nu. In 1981, the department shifted to Special Care Baby Unit which was later developed as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Central Women’s Hospital. Currently, department of neonatology is based at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Yangon Children’s Hospital since 2016.
The department is involved in teaching programme of University of Medicine1, Yangon and training undergraduate (Final Part 2, MBBS) and postgraduate (DCH, MMedSc and DrMedSc) medical students.

Departmental Objectives

  1. To provide high level teaching/ training programmes related to Neonatology in the University
of Medicine (1) Yangon, Myanmar
  1. To design and launch research activities for advanced management of neonates
  2. To provide special and intensive care to preterm and a sick newborn babies.
  3. To provide essential newborn care to well newborn babies.
